For some families, being in the military has become almost a tradition. For
Paul D. Walker, born in Bakersfield, California, the military did not become a
large part of his life until he served two successful tours in Viet Nam. As a
result, he decided to continue his career there in the armored cavalry division,
spending thirty years in the military and earning sixteen awards for valor and
achievement. Walker graduated in 1965 from Southwestern Missouri University with a B.S. in
political science. He later earned his master’s degree in public
administration from Shippensburg University. He vigorously studied American and
military history, and during this time, he became particularly interested in the
cavalry warfare. Paul Walker has written three books dealing with military situations: The
Cavalry Battle That Saved the Union: Custer vs. Stuart at Gettysburg ,
Truman’s Dilemma: Invasion or The Bomb , both published
by Pelican, and Jungle Dragoon. Now retired from the United States Army,
Mr. Walker, a proud father of four, resides in Salt Lake City, Utah, and devotes
his time to history, writing, and local politics. He also enjoys golf, skiing,
tennis, and backpacking. |
