A journalist with wide-ranging interests, Troy Gilbert has covered topics from New Orleans’ famous cuisine and coastal restoration, to competitive sailboat racing across the Gulf of Mexico. His articles have appeared in Gambit Weekly,New Orleans CityBusiness, and Sailing World, among other publications. Gilbert has also reviewed restaurants for WWNO, a New Orleans radio station, and the Food Network.
Gilbert spent ten years in medical sales while pursuing a career in writing. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he became widely recognized through his blog GulfSails. Working on generator power, Gilbert documented the events that unfolded around his hometown after he rode out the storm and became the outside world’s window into New Orleans, in the midst of a disaster.
An avid sailor, Gilbert is on the Board of Directors of Friends of West End and the New Orleans Yacht Club. In 2006, and again in 2007, he was nominated for a Southam Award, the highest award for sailing-related writing. He lives in New Orleans, Louisiana.
