“Wesley Eure’s highly acclaimed and recommended story is uniquely and memorably illustrated by the Meredith College Art Department.”
—The Midwest Book Review
Could it be true? Could a fish and bird have fallen in love? This unique collaboration between “Dragon Tales” co-creator Wesley Eure and the Meredith College Art Department uses simple colorful shapes to illustrate this eye-catching book.
When a berry slips from the bird’s beak and falls into the water below for the fish to eat, the two begin a friendship that celebrates their differences. The bird teaches the fish to sing, the fish fetches seaweed for the bird’s nest. Although they soon fall in love, all the neighboring animals and even their own families are skeptical, and worry that there is no way the two can be together.
A friendly mermaid with magical powers appears, and offers to grant their wish to be together. But even the mermaid’s magic does not solve their problem.
It all ends well, though, as the bird and the fish figure out a way to be together. Young readers will love the vivid illustrations that accompany this new, yet timeless tale.
