’Round Christmastime, things are a little different on the Emerald Isle.
An Irish Night Before Christmas reveals that instead of logs thrown onto the fire, we find turf blazing bright. Instead of cold eggnog spiced just right, the mother and father are enjoying their stout. You’ll find no Donner or Cupid or Blitzen, but Ould Neddy the donkey and his small cart. Father Christmas with his Irish eyes twinkling ushers in his seven elves to enjoy the poteen and plum pudding and to unpack his large sack. Thus begins the wondrous Irish night before Christmas.
The mischievous tale A Leprechaun’s St. Patrick’s Day is also presented here. Who could add to the merriment of St. Patrick’s Day more than leprechauns? When they make up their minds, they are determined to make mischief . . . and that is just what they do in this story. The leprechauns decide that even with all of the shamrocks, bagpipes, drums, and banners, the parade needs a little something extra—a dose of leprechaun fun. Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day parade will never be the same.
