Professional photographer Armand J. “Sheik” Richardson was born and raised in New Orleans. A Fire in My Lens is Richardson’s homage to his beloved hometown.
For his undergraduate education, Richardson attended Loyola University and earned a BA in political science with a minor in speech. He went to Tulane University for graduate school and went on to the University of New Orleans for his teacher certification. Richardson earned an additional degree at Delgado College for electronic servicing technology. After his brief period in the military, Richardson worked various jobs before achieving his dream of opening Penumbra Photos—a forensic and commercial photography company—in 1975. He also founded the Arabi Wrecking Krewe, which provides disaster relief, and was able to aid in the Katrina-recovery effort.
Richardson resides in New Orleans, where he has continues to take photographs of the city he loves.
