Cheryl Gerber, a staff photographer for Gambit, is also a freelance journalist and self-employed photographer. She is a regular contributor to the New York Times, The Associated Press, and New Orleans Magazine. Her work with Michael P. Smith inspired her to pursue a career in documentary photography and encouraged her to follow her passion of documenting daily life in New Orleans.
First employed as a reporter, Gerber decided to transition to photography after working in Honduras for a year. Following the career move, Gerber has become an award-winning photographer, earning several honors from the New Orleans Press Club for her work on social issues and news photography. Since the 1990s, she has numerous awards for both her journalism and photographs, which have appeared in Rolling Stone, GQ, Maxim, Elle Décor, and Los Angeles Times.
Gerber attended Southeastern Louisiana University and graduated with a bachelor’s of arts degree in journalism. A lifelong native of the Crescent City, she lives with her husband, Mark, and their son in New Orleans, Louisiana. |
