“Settles’ book gives solid advice to digital immigrants (parents) on how to understand and monitor digital natives (kids). Her insights help allay parents’ fears, navigate the complexities, and refocus on the positive aspects of the virtual world.”
—Dr. Stephen Sroka, president, Health Education Consultants
“Doris Settles’ keynote address at the 2008 At-Risk Youth National Forum in Myrtle Beach hit the ball out of the park! I’d love to find a way to mandate that every conference participant attend her session.”
—Linda Shirley, National Dropout Prevention Center, Clemson University
As technology continues to evolve, children navigate the digital world with greater ease than their parents and teachers, creating a barrier between the two generations. This manual enables adults to demystify the digital society and discover new ways to harness the impact of technology on today’s youth.
Chapters enable parents to guide their children toward effective and healthy relationships, in both the online and the physical world. The book goes beyond Internet safety discussions and delves into such topics as the Digital Culture Gap, Text Lingo, and the Education Connection. Reference materials and a review of key concepts provide the resources necessary for adults to become role models in the digital and physical realm.
