This 38 x 26-inch full-color poster serves as a quick reference and study guide for the classroom or for anyone with an interest in Confederate history. In addition to its centrally placed map of Confederate Virginia, it includes photos of the state's three generals, four lieutenant generals, four major generals, twenty Virginia Military Institute alumni and faculty general officers, and sixty-six commanders. Also pictured are twenty-three important Civil War sites that can be visited today, such as the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Lexington and the Confederate Whitehouse in Richmond.
Positioned only one hundred miles south of Washington, D.C., the area of Richmond, Virginia, quickly became one of the focal points of the battles between Robert E. Lee’s army and that of Ulysses S. Grant. The poster’s center map details the battles of Virginia and clearly shows that the area between these two cities was of great interest to the two opposing generals.
