Baku the crocodile and Taki the monkey are back in a second tale of friendship, loyalty, honesty, and trust. Baku ruined his friendship with Taki by trying to steal his heart and lost the approval of his village for not returning with it. Now he needs Taki’s help to cure the Mighty One, leader of all crocodiles, who is terribly ill. Can Taki find it in his heart to forgive Baku? Together, can they find a cure for the Mighty One so Baku’s village can accept him once again? Readers join Baku, Taki, and Queen Monkey through an adventure in the jungle, ultimately learning what it takes to be a real friend.
This original folktale is based on Kenyan fable characters and includes thirty-one color illustrations for kids to enjoy.
About the Author
H.J. Arrington is also the author of The Heart of a Friendship. She has taught elementary and middle school and has been a K-12 reading specialist. She began tutoring at the age of fifteen and loves to share the joy of literature and language with children and parents. Currently residing in Kentucky, she is an assistant professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky.
About the Illustrator
JoAnn E. Kitchel currently resides in Nashua, New Hampshire, where she is a freelance illustrator. Native to Lansing, Michigan, she received her BA from Central Michigan University and has served in the Peace Corps as an art teacher. She is also the illustrator of The Heart of a Friendship and other children’s books, such as The Farewell Symphony and Raven’s Gift.
