SALES REPRESENTATIVE

Pelican Publishing Company, Louisiana’s largest trade book publisher, is looking for a motivated self-starter who is well-organized, possesses excellent communication skills, and who has the ability and the desire to enthusiastically promote the company’s titles to customers and authors, new and established, not only within the traditional trade publishing market but also to nontraditional markets.  Experience in the book industry is a plus.

The representative is responsible for sales of Pelican’s entire line of books (front list as well as back list) within a multi-state territory, handling all types of accounts except the school market.  It is the responsibility of this position to call on bookstores, wholesalers, gift shops, and museums, with the expectation of increasing sales to the numerous established accounts in the territory as well as actively seeking and successfully garnering new accounts.

It is also the responsibility of this position to establish and maintain active communication with authors located within the designated territory and to work with each of the authors to set and to provide support for signings at bookstores, museums, special events, and any other venues that are considered appropriate.

Selling is generally done by phone and email from Pelican’s Westbank office, with some travel to conventions and individualized sales meetings with targeted customers. 

The representative is expected to acquire a thorough knowledge of Pelican’s diverse title list, which, as evidenced by this web site, includes cookbooks, travel, children’s books, non-fiction on numerous subjects, and regional titles.

Salary commensurate with experience.
