Layne, president of the Illinois Reading Council, has helped his organization win the International Reading Association’s highest award for membership, the President’s Cup. --Fabulousfoods.com

Why Jews Should Not Be Liberals (9781589803831), by Larry F. Sternberg:

"[Sternberg] employs Bible and Talmud verses and draws on history to show that Jews are instead better served by America’s conservative leaderships."

--Library Journal

The Battle of Carthage: Border War in Southwest Missouri, July 5, 1861 (9781589802230), by David C. Hinze and Karen Farnham:

--Gambit Weekly

Verses for Mom’s Heart (9781589803206), by Steven L. Layne:

"The verses are full of Steven L. Layne’s love for his mother, but they also incorporate thoughtful ideas, not doggerel sentiment, about why he loves his mother. . . . The full-color illustrations by Gail Greaves Klinger are meticulously painted and surely make her mother proud."

 --Easton (Md.) Star Democrat

Father Mississippi (9781565547957), by Lyle Saxon:

"Attentive readers will see the parallels between government response, and lack thereof, between the Great Flood and Hurricane Katrina, demonstrating even to the casual reader that little has changed in the intervening seventy-nine years. It also illustrates the old adage that those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it."

--L’Observateur

Voodoo Fire in Haiti (9781589803626), by Richard A. Loederer:

"A long-lost charmer about a trip within the Haitian interior of another era . . . [contains] very evocative woodcuts by the author that add to the total otherness of what and where he is, going from the wild twenties jazz scene in New York to the all-but-unbelievable scenes he was witness to in the cacophonous darkness of a voodoo ceremony."

 --Rockland (Maine) Courier-Gazette

Uglesich’s Restaurant Cookbook (9781589802094), by John Uglesich:

General James G. Blunt: Tarnished Glory (9781589802537), by Robert Collins:

"Those who fancy we live in corrupt, venal, decadent days, the worst by far ever seen in the world, would do well to crack a history book. Almost any serious history book would do, but they could do no better, for a start, than General James G. Blunt: Tarnished Glory."                                                       --Nevada (Mo.) Daily Mail

"An interesting Kansas book [that] introduces us to a little-known hero."                                                      --Territorial Magazine
