| Art Buchwald, a friend of Pelican, passed away in late January. Buchwald reported the censorship of four volumes of Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year at the 1979 Moscow Book Fair. This led to "An Open Letter to a Soviet Citizen," published as a foreword to the 1980 edition, predicting the eventual breakup and collapse of the Soviet Union. This foreword was beamed many times to the Soviet Union by Voice of America. | ||

The Chicken Little Agenda: Debunking "Experts’" Lies (9781589803527, $23.00), by Robert G. Williscroft, ranked #15 on the Amazon.com bestseller list in the conservation category on January 21, 2007. The book, published in spring 2006, is now in its second printing. Williscroft gave fourteen radio interviews in January, including two with syndicated talk show host Armstrong Williams. The author will be a guest on KCTC Sacramento on February 12. On February 17, he will talk with "Erskine Overnight," which is syndicated to forty U.S. stations. He continues to be extensively interviewed. Leah Chase, author of And Still I Cook (9781565548237, $23.00) and The Dooky Chase Cookbook (9780882896618, $23.00), participated in the PBS children’s program Fetch, which was filmed in August 2006. The New Orleans episode of Fetch will include children "fetching" ingredients for a gumbo cookoff contest. Set to air in the summer of 2007, the program highlights the diversity of New Orleans’ population and cooking traditions. |

Patricia Hall, author of The Honest-to-Goodness Story of Raggedy Andy (9781589802513, $15.95), Johnny Gruelle, Creator of Raggedy Ann and Andy (9780882899084, $45.00), Raggedy Ann and More: Johnny Gruelle’s Dolls and Merchandise (9781565541023, $35.00), and The Real-for-Sure Story of Raggedy Ann (9781565547636, $15.95), will attend the eighth annual Raggedy Ann and Andy tea party as a special guest. The tea party/luncheon is sponsored by the Indiana Historical Society and will be hosted by the storybook characters on February 10. Henri Schindler, author of the Mardi Gras Treasures Series, appeared on WLAE-TV on February 5. Schindler, the acclaimed designer of Mardi Gras parades and balls for some of New Orleans’ most eminent societies, participated in an interview for the "Road to Recovery" program. Schindler gave a lecture and slide presentation on Mardi Gras Treasures: Jewelry of the Golden Age (9781565547254, $35.00), the final book in the series, on January 31 at the East Bank Regional Library in Metairie, Louisiana. |

| Peggy Scott Laborde and John T. Magill, coauthors of Canal Street: New Orleans’ Great Wide Way (9781589803374, $39.95), were featured at an afternoon tea at the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans on January 27, 2007. The two signed copies and discussed their book, which is based on a WYES-TV documentary tracing the history and social life of New Orleans’ main thoroughfare. |

| Wa-Tonka! Camp Cowboys (9781589803541, $8.95 pb), by Joe Novara, has only been published in English, but that has not prevented its usefulness overseas. The children’s book can be found in the lending library at Sichuan College of Education in Chengdu, China, as a good example of what life is like in the United States. |
