LUNCH WITH ARNAUD’S
Kit Wohl, author of the
new
Arnaud’s Restaurant Cookbook (9781589803091) recently
treated Pelican’s staff to a luncheon catered by Arnaud’s chefs. The
menu featured recipes from the historic French Quarter bistro that can
be found in the newly published cookbook. Meet Ms. Wohl at the New
Orleans Writers Conference this month, as well as at the Garden District
Bookshop on May 21, Bookends Bookstore in Bay St. Louis on May 28,
Houston’s River Oaks Bookstore on June 23, and several Sam’s Club
locations through May and June. Ms. Wohl will also autograph copies at
Book Expo America in New York City on June 3.

RESTAURANT TO CLOSE
Both the New York Times
and the New Orleans Time-Picayune have recently run
feature stories about the imminent closing of the eighty-five-year-old
landmark. Once the venerable lunch spot is history, the only way to
sample Anthony and Gail’s specialties is to prepare recipes from their
cookbook,

written by their son, John Uglesich, which is already in its
second printing and has received rave reviews.
LYLE SAXON PRESENTATION
Chance Harvey, author of
The Life and Selected Letters of Lyle
Saxon (9781589801097), will give a lecture and slide
presentation to the Friends of the Cabildo on May 9 in New Orleans’
French Quarter, the neighborhood Saxon lived in, wrote about, and fought
to preserve.
FUTURE PELICAN AUTHOR?
Olivia Williams, sixteen-year-old daughter of Pelican author
Richard G. Williams, Jr., just won a $1000 college scholarship
awarded by the Lee-Jackson Foundation of Charlottesville, Virginia, for
the year 2004-2005. She was awarded an extra $1000 bonus ($2000 total)
for her winning essay about Stonewall Jackson being judged
the best of
all private and homeschool students’ submissions in the state.
