The event will honor the "Queen of Creole Cuisine," Leah Chase in her home of New Orleans. Although Hurricane Katrina damaged her restaurant, Dooky Chase, in 2005, she was still able to host Pres. George W. Bush and then-senator Barack Obama for lunch. Chase is the author of And Still I Cook ($23.00) and The Dooky Chase Cookbook ($23.00). Bohl's goal is to uncover the truth behind rumors surrounding the movie, such as were the monkeys set free after filming, and to discover why the first $1-million grossing film was shot in the state.

Dear Jude [Theriot],

I bought your cookbook Cajun Healthy [$24.95] probably ten years ago and fell in love with the No Meat Chili recipe, which I have cooked for countless friends and family since. I always cook it in a large Dutch oven,
most often with vegetable broth.

It was winter, 1999, when I was first with my wife Sandie (who died in 2004).

She had a bad sinus infection and chest cold. I went to the Whole Foods Market and purchased fresh bulk spices. As I was scooping the cayenne pepper into a bag, the dust got into my nose and eyes. Good thing I had one of those very large red hankies in my back pocket at the time!

When I arrived home, I began pouring my fresh spices into jars. Once again, the cayenne hit me hard. (I had not labeled the bags unfortunately, so I had to smell them.)

I decided that was enough of that! I looked into the bag I thought contained the chili powder and added 5 tbsp. to the chili. Of course, I wasn't enough of a cook at that time to be able to tell something was up. . . .

As we sat down to eat, Sandie took one bite and gave me a look. Here, what I thought was chili powder was really curry powder! Fresh curry! And man was it strong! Our eyes watered, and we felt warm all over as we ate the first bowl. (It really helped her sinus cold!)

Immediately, I doctored the chili by adding more tomatoes and 3 tbsp. of chili powder into the mixture to calm it down some. (I only use the cayenne when my 'hot' buddy comes to visit.)

Since that time, I have modified the recipe by using 3 tbsp. each of fresh curry and fresh chili into the recipe. People love it!

I do to!

Thanks for your recipes. So many I haven't tried yet, but your book is one of my favorite, and I plan to live a lot longer! Also, I have had to share this recipe with many admirers.
