In response, Pelican employees recently donated thirty copies of Hattie and the Hurricane (9781565546752, $6.95), by Debra West Smith. The book’s hurricane theme helped Gretna Park students deal with their own Katrina experiences as they related to Hattie’s adventures. |

| Harold Baumgarten, author of D-Day Survivor: An Autobiography (9781589804210, $25.00), visited Normandy Beach on June 6 to commemorate the anniversary of D-Day. Several television stations covered the event, including CNN, the History Channel, and Channel 3 News of Charleston, West Virginia. | Pelican intern Samantha L Perez received Louisiana Senate Resolution 127 for excellence in writing and for bringing attention to the damage inflicted on St. Bernard Parish by Hurricane Katrina. Sen. Walter Boasso presented the award at a regular session on June 15, 2006. |
