The 2008 Summer Olympics begin this month in Beijing, and the media is already causing a stir. Although protests precede this year’s games, controversy over the Olympics has persisted throughout history. In Olympic Black Women ($17.95), Martha Ward Plowden chronicles the struggles and accomplishments of African American women who have participated in the games since 1932. Rosemary K. Updyke continues the Olympic buzz with her biography, Jim Thorpe: The Legend Remembered ($17.95 pb). Mason will appear on Paula’s Home Cooking, hosted by Paula Deen, on the Food Network later this summer, and she will cook some recipes from her cookbook. |
Walter J. Boyne, author of The Influence of Air Power Upon History ($29.95), was featured prominently in a presentation delivered by Air Force Association president and CEO Michael M. Dunn.
